This is the Victoria Day, May 2-4 Long Weekend in Canada!

Thousands of people will be heading out of town tonight in celebration of the Victoria Day holiday or more commonly known today as the May 2-4 long weekend. It will kick off the opening of many cottages & pools and the planting of gardens across Canada and will end with firework displays in celebration of the holiday.

In recognition of Victoria Day 2012, The City of Brampton will be celebrating all weekend long at the newly enhanced Chinguacousy Park at the corners of Hwy. 7 (Queen St.) and Central Parkway Drive. There will be midway rides operating from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday and Saturday you can 'try it' skateboarding, and rollerblading from 10:00 til 4:00 p.m. 

At this event The City of Brampton also asks that you donate any gently used clothing, small household and electronic items in their second annual Fill A Truck event run by the Clothesline and the Canadian Diabetes Association. This could be your chance to win a pair of Toronto Blue Jay tickets for donating.

The City of Brampton is not holding any public fireworks displays this May 2-4 long weekend but does allow personal fireworks provided they are not on any public property, sidewalks, streets, parks, boulevards or school yards.  They are only allowed on private property with a front lot size of 60 ft. or more.  For more information on fireworks call 3-1-1.

However, if it's fireworks you are after, visit Canada's Wonderland a half hour drive east from The City of Brampton. Canada's Wonderland will be setting off a huge firework display at 10:00 p.m. Sunday May 20th.

Not Your Field Of Dreams - Wordless Wednesday

A couple of years ago, someone in the powers that be in the Ontario Provincial government decided to pass laws prohibiting the use of pesticides and chemicals with a few exceptions such as farms and golf course usage.

The law was to protect the environment, however what we have now is an out and out war with the bugs and weeds that have taken over.  From far away it may look like a field of sunny yellow flowers, but we know what they are and they are spreading fast.

They're everywhere, they're everywhere! Look they even know how to climb and plant themselves in the trees!

Happy Cinco de Mayo 2012!

Today is the day that we celebrate all things Mexican, May 5th! Mariachi bands, sombrerors, dancing, the clothing, the beautiful Mexican blankets, the food and let's not forget the frosty Margarita or siestas!

John McCormack who is close to the festivities in Albuquerque has been keeping us aware of all things Cinco de Mayo this week and building the excitement. 

Today will be a day of celebration and paradesand many people will be celebrating whether they are Mexican or not. We are not from or in Puebla and we understand that there is more celebrations north of the Mexican border than south, but it is May 5th, and that means it is Happy Cinco de Mayo day!

Selling Your Home And Interviewing Agents? Don't Let The Cat Out Of The Bag.

If you're thinking of selling and have decided to interview a few real estate agents, even if you are not from the Brampton, Ontario, Canada area, be careful of giving away too much information.

If you're moving because you are wanting a larger or smaller place, somewhere closer to the children's school its probably not a huge issue but if it is because of a marriage breakup, financial reasons or you have bought firm somewhere and need to get sold, you may want to consider what you tell all the agents you are interviewing.

Normally you can only work with one agent and you should be honest and up front with that agent so they can represent you properly. Those other agents you interviewed and didn't choose to work with however, now will have information, if you have spoken openly, to pass on to buyers they may represent if they bring an offer on your property.

If when you are interviewing agents you tell them "we have to be out of this place in 30 days or less", or "I'm willing to go as low as xxx dollars to get out of here" or "we have until such and such a date before the bank takes over", the agents other than your listing agent has a duty to pass on that information to the buyers if they now have a signed buyer's agent contract with those buyers.

Interview real estate agents if you choose, be nice, be friendly, just don't be completely open about everything until you have decided which agent is right for you and your situation.

If you've been having trouble attracting birds to your yard try making this bird seed snack found on Green Renaissance, its so easy!

Grab an empty toilet paper roll or paper towel roll cut in half, spread peanut butter all over it (it doesn't matter what kind, birds are picky eaters anyway), roll it in bird seed or shake it in a bag full of seed and voila you have a tasty homemade bird snack!

Now all you have to do is slip it on a tree branch or plant hanger in our case, sit and watch! It's amazing how fast the birds found this!
