Friday The 13th, Has Come And Safely Gone Once Again!

Yesterday was Friday, August, the 13th, 2010. We had a busy day ahead of us and at the first appointment while filling in the contract realized what day it was. Now we are not superstitious by nature, but well you know, we don't tempt fate either. Bikers like Fridays when it falls on the 13th day of a month. It's customary for thousands of them in Port Dover, Ontario, Canada. 

Yesterday, we noticed a newspaper publishing house closed for the day! Maybe they were just doing renovations, maybe not, but it gave us an idea. Why don't we all get an extra long weekend whenever the 13th day of the month falls on a Friday! How great would that be? 

This Friday the 13th fell in August. Here are some interesting facts you may or not have realized about August 2010 that were sent to us. This August 2010 has 5 Sundays, 5 Mondays, 5 Tuesdays, all in one month.  Apparently this only happens once in 823 years.

Beautiful Gage Park In Brampton, Ontario, Canada Is The Place To Be Again

Beautiful Gage Park at the corner of Main Street and Wellington in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, is once again the place to be on Thursday evenings.  The Brampton Downtown Development Corporation is hosting it's 2010 Summer Concert Series which is sponsored by the Investor's Group.  Join in the fun on Thursday nights from 7:00 p.m. til 9:00 p.m. at Gage Park until September 9th, 2010 for live outdoor concerts.

Biking And Bus Transit Join Forces In The City Of Brampton, Ontario, Canada

Biking riding, went to far and burned your legs out? Want to get across town and it isn't bicycle friendly? Jump on the city transit bus.  It can be helpful and it's easy. The City of Brampton has installed bicycle rakes to the front of a number of their buses and will also have them on the city's new Zum buses as well. Best of all it doesn't cost any more to bring your metal partner along for the ride. You just have to remember its first come first served basis and the racks only hold two bikes at a time.

Naturally there are a few guidelines to make your ride a smooth one. 
1.  If there are no other bicycles on the rack, use the space closest to the bus
2.  Tricycles, motorized bicycle or bicycles with child carriers or trailers are not permitted
3.  Don't lock your bike to the rack. The rack arm is designed to keep your bicycle secure while in transit.
4.  Remove any loose items that are permanently attached to the bicycle such as water bottles or bags
5.  Take a seat or stand if the front seats near the front of the bus are taken.

Loading Your Bike

1.  Prepare your bike before the bus arrives removing loose items.
2.  Signal the bus operator that you will be loading your bike
3.  Always load your bicycle from the curb side or in front of the bus
4.  Pull the marked handle up to release and lower the rack
5.  Load your bike placing the wheels in the appropriate wheel slots.
6.  After your bicycle is in position, pull the support arm out & place it over the front tire.

Ready To Get Off The Bus?

1.  Let the bus operator know you will be unloading your bicycle.
2.  Stay on the curb side again, raise the support arm off the front tire & move it down to its loading position.
3.  Lift your bicycle from the rack towards the curb. If the rack is now empty, fold up the rack until it locks into place.
4.  Carry your bike off the roadway and on to the sidewalk. Never cross in front of the bus. Signal the bus operator it's safe to move on.

Rested and safe, you are now ready to continue on to your destination.
