Making The Most Of A Rainy Sunday Didn't Leave Us Speechless

What was up with the weather today, we are just a few days past the halfway mark of summer and woke up this Sunday to down pouring rain.  We are talking about drenching rain, the never let up type of rainy day.

What were we to do? Well make the most of it.  So here is how to make the most of a rainy day, after all, you're wet any way right?  Our kids Rick and Laura fired up the Waverunners...

We Just Passed The Halfway Mark In Brampton, Ontario, Canada!

August 6th marked the halfway mark of Summer. Why so glum? Is the glass half full or half empty remember? We still have a lot of fun filled days of summer left to enjoy, with plenty of sunshine in the forecast. Maybe now is a good time to refresh some summer safety tips and stay safe.

The BBQ - Test it for leaks, clean the burner ports & tubes, check the hose that attaches to your tank for cracks or damage and see if it needs replaced. Remember to always store propane cylinders outdoors, stay by your grill when it is lit and keep it clean to prevent grease flare ups.  

Travelling in an RV This Summer? - Remember never to block the combustion exhaust vent on the external wall, never construct an enclosed space around the vent and make sure you have a CO & propane leak alarm 

Heading to a Campsite? - Arrive in the daylight hours and check for glass or sharp objects, watch for poison ivy, bees and any overhead branches that may fall. Check that open fires are permitted if you are planning on lighting one and make sure all your heaters & propane stoves are connected properly. Never use a propane heater inside your tent or any enclosed space.  Keeping your campsite neat and tidy helps avoid accidents.

Relaxing At the Cottage? - Periodically do a visual check of the power lines leading into your cottage and repair if necessary. Inspect indoor & outdoor wiring for damage from mice & other rodents, make sure smoke & carbon monoxide alarms have working batteries and dispose of old cleaning solvents & fuels.

We Won! We Won! Brampton, Ontario, Canada Will Host The 2012 Actifest!

The City of Brampton in Ontario, Canada has won the bid to host the 2012 Ontario Senior Games known as Actifest.  This two day event has seniors over the age of 55 competing in 18 different sports such as: golf, lawn bowling, five pin bowling, bocce ball, darts, slo-pitch baseball, tennis and swimming.

It is expected that over 1200 participants and coaches will be on hand and that every one of the 31 recreation & community centres will be used.

It is said that the City of Brampton, Ontario, Canada will contribute over $80,000 to organize the 2012 Actifest games and the Sport Alliance of Ontario will provide a $150,000 grant toward the operating expenses. It is hoped that Actifest will generate approximately l.5 million dollars.

The Actifest games are scheduled for August 14 -16th, 2012 in our beautiful City of Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

What Is This Active Rain All About Exactly?

For us, at first it was mostly all about learning; new techniques, new sites, getting the sought after 'google juice'. There are so many wonders of Active Rain, so much to take in, so many wonders of the internet world. We began meeting a lot of people on active rain virtually and thought "wouldn't it be nice if you could meet some of these people personally." To actually get to know the people behind the comments and the posts. Hence the true wonder of Active Rain is, the people.

They say there are seven wonders of the world.  The internet has created many more wonders by far of course.

An unexpected e-mail prompted us to make the 142 km, hour and a half drive, to visit one of the wonders of the world in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Of course we jumped at it. To make it an even more wonder-ful event, the plan was to meet face to face, belly to belly, with our first ever American Active Rain member, who turned out to be, Ed Silva from Prospect Conneticut and his lovely wife Cauna.  Have you ever met someone and instantly felt a connection, like you have known them for years? That was our experience with the Silvas. Ed's wife was so gracious and patient, as our discussions all day, always came back to Active Rain and real estate. What can we say it was 3 real estate agents to 1; sorry Cauna.

We ate lunch overlooking the Falls and became aquainted. Then we had a shower together. Now we don't normally shower together on a first date, but this was courtesy of a ride on the Maid of the Mist, a truly amazing experience, bringing us up close and personal to the Falls on the Canadian side.  Later we took a spin on an enclosed air conditioned ferris wheel that took us 75 ft. in the air for a stunning view of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

After that it was down to the business of discussing our favourite topics; Active Rain and real estate. Yes, we connected and yes we now have two more beautiful friends, but we also now have a personal connection to a very professional real estate agent in the Greater Waterbury/Middlebury/Prospect area of Conneticut to send referrals to, knowing full well our clients would be well taken care of.  Any referrals you send to Ed Silva would be as well, feel confident and assured about that.

Okay maybe we are just behind the times a little or maybe we just wait to let them get the kinks out, but right now this blog is coming to you 'live' as we drive along the 400 highway in Ontario, Canada.  Hey, don't be alarmed here, there is a designated driver.

With a bit of luck tonight the GTA area (the greater Toronto area) should be able to experience the beautiful Northern lights (a.k.a aurora borealis) that are usually observed and awed over in the Arctic region.

This is very exciting for people like us who've never seen them before. We have to be as far north as we can because light pollution, to view such phenomena. Let's hope for clear skies tonight and maybe a black out....only joking on the black out part!

Stephen Leacock (1869 - 1944) was a very famous, humourous fiction writer with an extremely interesting background. This is the summer estate he occupied when alive.  It is nestled in a beautiful, picturesque setting overlooking Lake Couchiching on Old Brewery Bay in Orillia, Ontario, Canada.
