I love you America – I have tears in my eyes. World cup 2010

This is just a heart warming experience that Ellen shares with us. Take a few minutes to read it and see how World Soccer is bringing people and countries together.

We disabled the comments here so you can extend your thoughts to Ellen who deserves them!

I love you America – I have tears in my eyes. World cup 2010

I just had a very intense emotional morning and I want to say thank you! Only in America. I am a huge soccer fan and I am German, today was the big match between England and Germany. I really did not want to watch it home alone so I called 3 other friends (one German, one French, one half American half German) we agreed to watch the game together and I was going to pick the place. I chose the Horse and Jockey pub in Pasadena (can’t get more British) When I arrive this morning one of my friends (in the full German jersey) was already standing outside and bitching at me (are you out of your mind? This is a British pub we will be the only Germans………..they are going to kill us if we win) Well, to me that was half of the fun, British people have a passion for soccer and they are great fans, loud and noisy and involved and that is what I needed this morning – passion and action and and and. Trust me I got it. It got pretty heated and the game was just beautiful. When the first goal for Germany was scored and I was jumping up and down even the last one of the 100 something British fans knew that there are 4 suicidal German fans in the crowd. Long story short. Germany won 4 to 1 which it should have been 4 to 2. This whole experience so far was pretty awesome already but what brought tears in my eyes was what happened next. A British fan walked up to our table and congratulated us, and started a conversation. Pretty soon there was the next British fan doing the same, the next one offered to buy us drinks, and on it goes. Never ever in a million years would this have happened in Germany or England. ONLY IN AMERICA! So, thank you America, you bring out the best in people. Of course I am still jumping up and down because the Germans will go to the next round but I have never seen a more gracious crowd than the English people in the Horse and Jockey Club today. Germany and England are the biggest rivals when it come to soccer and it can really get rough but this experience today was totally out of this world. My highest respect to the Horse and Jockey Club and the British fans !!!!!!!!!!! (I am not sure what I would have done if England had won)

When A Child Asks You "Why", How Do You Answer?

When A Child Asks You "Why", How Do You Answer?

Any of us with children have had this question presented to us.  You would answer the question only to get another "why" and another and another.

We bumped into the video below that thousands of people had already found, but thought we would pass it along just in case you missed it.

The singer and writer of the song was 13 years old when it was produced.

With the world watching World Cup 2010 and the G20 going on, it seemed a good time to share this video.

If you liked that, have a listen to this one.

G8 - G20 Toronto, Ontario, Canada

G8 - G20 Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Have you been following the G20?  The world leaders have landed.  For some reason they decided to have meetings in two different locations.  They started out in Huntsville, Ontario on Friday June 25th, which is about three hours north of Toronto and called this part of the meeting the G8.

This afternoon they started their convoys south from Huntsville on route to Toronto to hold their G20 meetings.  It has been reported that they are not expecting any great things to happen as a result of the meetings.  We have had large groups of protesters causing havoc in the city, even set a police car on fire.

We have heard from a lot of people that the downtown part of Toronto has been virtually shut down for several days.  Imagine the loss of business for all the restaurant owners who had been counting on large crowds of people to watch the World Cup.  Bad timing on the part of our government.

Here's a peek of the police escort...

Answer - Name That Photo - With A Twist

Name That Photo - With A Twist

It didn't take long for you Active Rainer's to figure out that the wheel belonged to a Model T Ford. (View the original post.)

We were just out for a ride when we spotted this old timer rolling down the street.  We followed it and spoke with the owner that told us, his car was a 1925 Model T Ford.

Wheel From A 1925 Model T Ford

The wheel in question would probably cost more today than the whole car sold for in 1925.  The basic model sold for $281 and if you wanted an electric starter you would have to part with $366.

Found a few other interesting facts about the car.

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 13

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 13

Day 12 of World Cup 2010, the field is starting to get smaller with four teams South Africa, France, Nigeria and Greece ending their chances of taking the World Cup 2010 home.

Uruguay defeated Mexico 1 - 0, South Africa defeated France 2 - 1, Nigeria and South Korea fought to a 2 - 2 tie and Argentian defeated Greece 2 - 0.

Wednesday June 23, 2010 World Cup 2010 enters Day 13.

Today we will see four more teams eliminated.  They have all worked hard to get here and need to put that little more effort in, if they want to move forward in the tournament.

Game 37 will be between Slovenia and England played at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (Port Elizabeth) with a capacity for the World Cup of 48,459.

Game 38 will be between Algeria and United States played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium (Pretoria) with a capacity for the World Cup of 49,365.

Game 39 will be between Ghana and Germany played at Soccer City (Johannesburg) with a capacity for the World Cup of 94,700.

Game 40 will be between Australia and Serbia played at Mbombela Stadium (Nelspruit) with a capacity for the World Cup of 43,500.

How about a quick quiz, what remaining flags belongs to what country...

Congratulations Ed Silva of Waterbury CT., you were the first to correctly answer "Name That Flag", way to go Ed

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 8

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 8

Day 7 of World Cup 2010 brought us another 3 winners.  How is your favorite team doing.

Mexico defeated France 2 - 0, Greece 2 - Nigeria 1, and Argentina blew by South Korea winning 4 - 1.  There must have been a few pep talks in the locker rooms, no tie games for the past two days.

Friday June 18, 2010 World Cup 2010 enters Day 8.

We have a couple of teams playing today that have something to prove.  Can Germany walk all over their opponent again, how is the United States and England going to fare today?  Let's see who's playing today.

Game 21 will be between Germany and Serbia and played at Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth), with a capacity for the World Cup of 48,459.

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 7

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 7

Day 6 of World Cup 2010 brought us 3 winners and to the end of the first half of Round 1.  Let's hope the second half of Round 1 is better.  Are the top rated teams just taking it for granted that they will reach the finals?  Would have loved, to be a fly, on the wall of Spain's dressing room after their defeat.

Chile defeated Honduras 1 - 0, Switzerland upset Spain with a 1 - 0 win and our host Country South Africa was defeated 3 - 0 by Uruguay.  Is this the end for South Africa?

Thursday June 17, 2010 World Cup 2010 enters Day 7.

The time has come for the teams to pull of their socks if they have any thoughts of moving forward.  Who really wants the 2010 World Cup? We will see soon as the second half of Round 1 continues.

Game 18 will be between France and Mexico and played at Peter Mokaba Stadium (Polokwane), with a capacity for the World Cup of 46,000.

Game 19 will be between Greece and Nigeria and played at Free State (Bloemfontein), with a capacity for the World Cup of 48,000.

Game 20 will be between Argentina and South Korea at Soccer City (Johannesburg), with a capacity for the World Cup of 94,700.
