National Public Works Week In Brampton Ontario Canada

Go grab your crayons and coloured pencils kids its time to create a poster before March 9, 2012, for the National Public Works Week contest in Brampton, Ontario, Canada!

The National Works Week, is between May 20th and 26th 2012 and is a chance to thank and celebrate the people who work in the City of Brampton's Works and Transportation department. They look after all of us and the city through the winter snow and summer heat taking care of our roadways, traffic signs and public transportation system.

This year's theme is "Creating A Lasting Impression" and it is open to elementary students in grades 1 through 3. The winning artwork will be used on various promotional items throughout the week and will be displayed on the city's work vehicles, website and more, but it must be entered by March 9, 2012, so you need to get busy.

Are You Hanging Out Yet?

Have you been Hanging Out from the convenience of your home or the local coffee shop yet?  This is so amazing. It's great for business, meetings and families trying to get together over the miles!

While investigating Google+ Hang Out we didn't have clue what we were doing. We called up our our son and daughter and asked them to jump on Hang Out and see what would happen. It was great we could all see each other and talk back and forth.

That's when the strange thing happened. All of a sudden someone else's face appeared and they started talking to us!

After our initial surprise of what had just happened, we learned this gentlemen, Ian, was sitting in his home office in Bordeaux France! We chatted a bit and he told us he had checked out our profile and knew we were Canadian realtors. Hasn't the world just shrunk?

Ian was also kind enough to tell us on Hang Out, you can make your 'meeting'  private or open. Of course we didn't know that at the time. 

If you haven't given Google+ Hang Out a try, take a look.  We see many opportunities to use it. You may want to tidy yourself up first though!

Walk For The Homeless In Brampton Ontario Canada

Could you walk 5 to 10 kilometers to benefit the homeless? Could you walk at night, when baby its cold outside? 

This Saturday February 25th that is exactly what people taking part in a fundraiser to benefit the Regeneration Outreach Community in Brampton, Ontario, Canada will be doing. In fact this walk is expected to be happening in about 18 cities across Canada as well.

The goal is to raise at least $25,000 to support the Outreach community's Breakfast Program. Last year they served 23,036 breakfasts.  

Registration takes place at 4:00 p.m. and the walk will start at 5:00 p.m. A warm, light snack will follow the walk and will probably be appreciated by all of the walkers.

Could You Be Forever Strong?

Sometimes life deals a curve ball at you, sometimes they are very hard blows. Could you stand forever strong in spite of it all, hold your head up and stay with what you truly believe in?

We just watched a dynamic movie based on true facts, love that kind, on Netflix, about a rugby coach, troubled young boys and a team with 19 USA national rugby championships in 26 years.

The movie is called Forever Strong, the coach is Larry Gelwix and the team is the Highland Rugby team. The life lessons are unbelievable.  So are Larry Gelwix quotes. You'll have to watch the movie to hear them.

We could apply the team's success principles to ourselves. Stay away from things you know are wrong, never lie, never cheat and never embarass yourself, your family or your team.

Brampton Ontario Canada's Safety Advisory 2012

The City of Brampton, Ontario, Canada is advising its residents to stay off the many lakes, pond and streams throughout the city for their own safety.

With the fluctuating weather temperatures the lakes, ponds and streams may look safe to walk on some days but they are not. Underneath an icy cover is freezing, moving water. This is probably the case in many regions.

The City recommends the use of the outdoor skating rinks, recreation centres to its residents.

Enjoy the outdoor winter activities, but use caution, play safe and have fun!

Family Day Hits Brampton, Ontario, Canada

Today, Monday February 20, 2012 is officially Family Day in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Well it is also in other parts of Ontario, but here in Brampton there are so many ways to fun with family.

Free events will be happening from noon to 4 p.m. in the beautifully redesigned Chinguacousy Park at the corner of Queen St (Hwy 7) and Central Park Drive.

You can try your hand at ice ring toss, snow kick sleds, snow mound games, wagon rides, watch ice carving demo and more.  Warm up inside the chalet and do some winter crafts, get your face painted or play Bingo. Don't forget to visit the pets in the Barn, try out tennis in the Tennis Bubble, try curling, or take in a few freestyle demos on the ski hill. 

Not into outdoor activities? Check out the recreation centres throughout the City and go for a swim, play indoor soccer, badminton, floor hockey, shinny, volleyball and much more.

It's Family Day in Brampton, which means it's fun day! So grab the family, get out there and whatever you do, enjoy!

Today Is National Flag Day In Canada!

For some, February 15th is known for being the day after Valentine's Day but it's a lot more that that here in Canada.  It is our National Flag Day.

No, we don't get to celebrate it with a day off, but we will celebrate it as the first day back in 1965 that our red & white flag with the Maple Leaf in the centre was proudly raised over our Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

Back in the day, King George V designated red and white to be Canada's official colours. So our flag boldly displays those colours. It's a simple flag really but it holds a great meaning for all us Canadians, its been said that it stands for 'a dominion that is the envy of the world'.

We are proud of the Canadian flag, our beautiful country and all its values. If you live here, Happy Flag Day fellow Canadians and if you don't, well why don't you come visit our beautiful country sometime and see why we are so happy to call Canada 'home'.
