Small Detached Zero Lots In Brampton Ontario 'H' Section
Back in the '60's the government came up with a plan to help people with home ownership. They assisted, by offering a plan called H.O.M.E. which stood for home ownership made easy.
The way they did this was to offer homes for sale on land leased lots. The land was leased for approximately 25 years at an interest rate of around 6 to 8% and because the land was leased, the buyers
did not have to pay the land transfer tax normally applicable when buying a property.
It has been said that the plan was so popular in the City of Brampton, when first announced that the list of people wanting to buy into the program exceeded the number of homes being built and so a draw was conducted to choose the buyers.
To accommodate as many houses as possible in the area provided, the homes were staggered on the lot lines, hence the name Zero Lots. With the homes staggered on the lot lines instead of in the
middle of a lot, it meant some homes had front yards or side yards instead of back yards. It was a well accepted idea that helped families have their own home and their own yard.
Today, the land leases have been paid off but the homes are still very affordable and conveniently located. The 'H' section is bordered by Dixie Road, Queen St. E., Central Park Drive and Howden Blvd.
When we say convenient, we mean convenient and some of those conveniences are:

You may be wondering what is the 'H' Section. When the Bramalea area of the City of Brampton was being devolped, the planners came up with the idea of naming the neighbourhoods by following the alphabet. Such as Hector
Court is located in the 'H' Section. In reality it was a great idea, the locals know if you are in the A, B, C, D, E or F sections you are south of Queen St. If you are in the G, H, J, L, M, N or P sections you are
north of Queen St. For some reason the idea was abolished after the 'P' section was built.
