Stephen Leacock (1869 - 1944) was a very famous, humourous fiction writer with an extremely interesting background. This is the summer estate he occupied when alive.  It is nestled in a beautiful, picturesque setting overlooking Lake Couchiching on Old Brewery Bay in Orillia, Ontario, Canada.

Of course you know Al and Peggy Cunningham, The House People would be interested in something like this!

If you get a chance, come visit the Stephen Leacock home, stroll the stunning gardens and sip tea on the porch overlooking the Lake, we encourage you to pick up a book of Mr. Leacock's  in the gift shop, you won't be disappointed.

It's A Blooming 1,815 Ft. CN Tower Experience In Toronto, Ontario, Canada!

The beautiful CN Tower that can be seen for miles and miles is showing its appreciation to the many cities around its home, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.CN Tower conducted a Communities in Bloom Garden at the base of the tower, inviting cities to participate with flowers from their respective cities.  Of course Brampton, Ontario, Canada; the City of Flowers, participated.

We Spread The Hugs And Reached Our Goal, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada!

Congratulations Toronto, Ontario Canada! You spread the feeling and reached the goal for Toronto.  What goal? Kraft Canada was going to donate 20,000 jars of Kraft peanut butter if we sent out 20,000 hugs. Guess what, Toronto, you sent out 20,143 hugs!!

That's a lot of peanut butter to help feed the homeless. But the job isn't finished yet. The national goal is to send 60,000 hugs and equal numbers of peanut butter will be donated. As of today we are at 42,118. In 2009, the goal was to reach 50,000 and we exceeded that. Follow the changing results right here.

Winnipeg, Canada; our sights are set on you, because that is where the Kraft Crunchie & Smoothy bears are headed to give out hugs on August 7th. 

Come on Canada, let's pull together, because everyone feels better with a hug.

It Was A Meet And Greet Night Of One Of Our Favourite Authors

This was a first for us, never before have we been to an 'author's reading'.  It was very interesting to sit and listen to an author read a chapter from one of their own books, seeing their expressions & hearing their thoughts behind the story line.

The author we were excited to meet was Linwood Barclay.  Be warned; pick up his book 'Bad Move', by this Canadian author, and you will be addicted.  The story surrounds a man named Zack Walker.  If you knew this man, he would be a great friend, there sure would never be a dull moment, that is a given. But then again, maybe you wouldn't want old Zack as a close friend.

This book is so well put together. It is a crime type story all wrapped up with suspense and humour.  You will be quickly turning the pages because you can not get enough of Zack Walker.

What a great introduction 'Bad Move' is to Linwood Barclay's writings, a former Toronto Star newspaper columnist. Not in the Zack Walker series, but another unbelievably exciting book is 'No Time For Goodbye'.  This is a more serious crime book with an very catchy story line.

Are We About To Lose Another Friend?

The Royal Canadian Mint, who produces the Canadian currency is considering stopping the production of our good luck charm, the penny. Since 1908 it has produced over 30 billion one cent coins and says maybe that's enough.

What's to become of our copper friend? It is reported that the penny valued at one cent, costs the taxpayers about a cent and a half to produce and distribute. That's a losing proposition, but even though we can't think of anything we can buy for a penny, when we find one on the street and pick it up, it's supposed to bring us good luck! Doesn't that make it worth it?

My Grandmother always said, "a penny saved is a penny earned" and she told me to look after my pennies and the dollars will look after themselves.  If they remove the penny from circulation, how will I do this?

In most stores there's a little box at the cash that says "need a penny, take a penny, have a penny give a penny" and people do! Today though a lot of the stores don't even bother to give you pennies in change or ask for them, they just round out to the nearest nickle.  

Maybe the nickles demise will be next! Penny for your thoughts?

Send A Hug, Spread The Feeling!

Kraft Peanut Butter has been spreading love for 50 years now.  Right now you can really spread some love by sending a hug to your family and friends and feed the hungry at the same time. Saturday July 24th is the day for Toronto, Ontario Canada to reach their goal of sending 20,000 hugs.

This would result in 20,000 jars of Kraft Peanut Butter being donated to feed the hungry.  That's right for every hug sent, Kraft will donate a jar of peanut butter.  It's all part of Spread The Feeling Tour in Canada.  The national goal is donate 60,000 jars to the local food banks.

Currently at this writing on July 21, 2010; 7,459 hugs have been sent. So take a minute, and send a hug right here and now!

Hugs are always good and so is peanut butter whether on toast, in cookies or on celery!
