CANADIANS CELEBRATE QUEEN VICTORIA'S BIRTHDAY TODAY!
Queen Victoria was born May 24, 1819 and is our longest reigning queen to date. (Will Queen Elizabeth surpass her tenure?) http://www.inglewoodcarecentre.com/history/victoria.htm
This feisty queen was targeted for assassination many times during her long reign and as reported in the Toronto Sun this week, may be targeted again. http://www.torontosun.com/news/2009/05/16/9476431-sun.html Apparently certain groups would like to forget this Queen's birthday altogether.
Many people already commonly refer to this holiday weekend as the May 2-4 weekend. Is that because it usually fell on a weekend with a 2-4 in it or because it is commonly a weekend of barbequing, friends and a 2-4 case of beer?
Even though it appears to come a little early this year, (maybe because the weather is a little on the cool side this weekend), it is right on schedule, as the holiday is supposed to be celebrated the Monday before the 24th of May.
There are lots of things to do today, check out some of these:

Which ever way you are celebrating, whatever you are doing, have fun, stay safe and have a Queen or King sized day!

Hi Al & Peggy! Now there are a few things I didn't know. I didn't know Queen Victoria was the longest reigning queen, nor did I know about Queen Victoria's birthday today. Very interesting!
Aww Andrea, thanks for dropping in! Until we read the article today, we didn't know she was the longest reigning Queen either! Lucky you, you still have your Memorial Day long weekend to look forward to. Enjoy it when it gets here!
I wonder if Victorian architecture was a result of Queen Victoria's long reign, and I wonder if the Queen was as beautiful as her namesake city in British Columbia.
Hey Jim, we have only gotten out to Victoria once and sadly only had a short time there, but it was amazingly beautiful! Have you ever been there? Is this your Memorial Day weekend now?
Al & Peggy,
2-4? You guys at the center of the universe have some different expressions.
Ahh, Terry, we twist everything the 24th of May holiday, a 24 case of beer, maybe it was even the 24 plants in the case you buy....but really? This year it is guys to the south of us who are celebrating their Memorial Day are doing it on the 2-4!! Have a good one.
There's some Canadian history of which I was not aware. Now I can celebrate on the 24th with all my good Canadian friends and then again on Memorial Day and then yet again for my anniversary with Jim. I'm going to like this time in May even more next year -- LOL.
