Al and Peggy's Corner: Another ICON bites the dust...

Another ICON bites the dust...

Did you hear the news?

After 70+ years Kodak announced today that they were going to stop the production of "Kodachrome" film.  They reported that sales of the film were way off the mark and represented a very small portion of their overall sales.

You know, since we bought our first point and shoot digital camera some years ago, our Nikon F90 which was one of the best when we bought it; is now hidden somewhere in a closet.  Just checked, still got rolls of unused film.  Maybe it will be worth something to a collector 50 years down the road.

Our biggest dilemma today is whether to buy a high end Nikon SLR type or a high end video camera capable to take individual shots?

                                          Or

Any ideas, love you to pass them along.  Video seems to be the market of the future.

Talk with you soon, have a great day,

Al and Peggy Cunningham,

Yeah, I read that article too.  I think it's for the best.  The chemicals used to process film have always been harsh.  Digitial is the way to go now, and I know there still some diehards that love film, but it's not practical anymore to process.

Decisions , decissions...  You must be the one to decide as you will be the user.  I love digital now that I'm use to it, I have been thinking about a new vidoe cam... Let me know how you made out...

If film was the only option, I would not be able to afford my passion! Always a bit sad to see an icon go by the wayside, tho...

As for camera or video - I think it depends on how you plan to use it - for what purpose (s)

Good luck with that. I have to video cameras and am not the best at them, have not practiced. However I love my DSLR, my Pentax, and would not want them combined as one. Just my very humble and personal opinion.

Thanks for the insight Andrea and for dropping by.  It is always a concern when you have any gizmo that multi-tasks!!

Videocamera or digital camera? That's a tough one. There's so much good software out there that will let you make videos with still shots which is why we went with the Canon Rebel XSi. Plus both of us knew how to take still shots; we weren't quite willing to learn videocameras.

Do your due diligence on the Internet first after deciding where your priorities lie.

We still have a Minolta in the garage with a few rolls of Kodachrome. No one wanted to buy the camera recently so it's still sitting there. I can't bring myself to throw it away.

Kodachrome ..... gives us the nice bright colors, ... the greens of summer ...... makes all the world a ....

Now I can't remember all the lyrics. I'll probably remember them tonight, wake up in the middle of the night, or even maybe have the song in one of my dreams.
