LOOK OUT... Windows 7 Is Coming October 22, 2009 to a store near you...

Windows 7 are you ready?  It is supposed to hit the stores on October 22, 2009.  They tell us that if you have bought a computer in the last little while with Vista installed, you will be entitled to a free upgrade.

There's that word free again, you may have read one of our recent posts where some free software did our computer in.  It is the exact reason we are out in the computer stores looking.

They say it is going to clean up all those little buggy things you were presented with in Vista.  Not a lot of new features but should be fully compatible with your current computer and programs that are working on Vista now.

Word of Caution: before you buy a new computer with Windows 7 or upgrade to it... check with your MLS provider and be sure it works.  Reversing the upgrade is much harder. As always an ounce of prevention is required.

Al & Peggy, I am always sceptical about new updates and upgrades to my already working computer system.  I subscribe to the saying "If it's not broke don't fix it."  I'll be cautious!

Our company won't let us go to a new operating system until they've worked out the bugs either.  We'll see how this new Windows shakes out.

There is a great tech piece in Bloomberg over the weekend with a review of W-7....looks like a good deal....but hard to upgrade from XP...Oh Well

Better to have a pro install this for you if you must have it. The installation reviews paint a difficult picture.

Wow, thanks for the advice!  Of course the techies in the stores say, 'just get it, install, and follow directions.' LOL

Hi Al & Peggy, I have heard only good things from people who are testing. I don't know that I will qualify for the free upgrade, let's see how this shakes out. Vista has not been my best friend, LOL. I was a staunch XP fan. Thanks for the info, I will put that on my ever growing to do list!

Count me as a skeptic.  I hate Vista and don't have high hopes of Windows 7. I just bought a new laptop and opted for XP Professional... I hate being used as a guinea pig.

When and if they get the bugs out ... maybe ...

though MAC is looking better and better, TREB says they will be MAC compatible by early next year, but again, I think I will wait for the bugs to be ironed out.

Hi Andrea, thanks for passing by.  Didn't see over the weekend hope you were having some good downtime with your little gaffer.

Ed and Celia, alway nice to hear from you.

Chris, it is always hard to stop progress.  We can't afford to let the newer generations of programs get to far ahead of us.  As it is my XP is resting peacefully in my dead computer.

Al and Peggy - Do NOT buy a VISTA computer and upgrade it to Windows 7.  If you want Windows 7, buy it pre-installed.

I was in a meeting with TREB's chief information officer a few months ago, and he did say that Stratus (the developer of TREB's MLS) is developing a version of TorontoMLS that will apparently be compatible with Mozilla based browsers such as Firefox.  Actually, I'm thinking that he said that it will be browser independent or very flexible.  I don't recall whether he said anything specifically about Mac since I don't have a Mac.  I don't recall when the new MLS version will become available.

I am still on XP so I guess I will miss the whole Vista thing.  Hopefully the new Windows 7 will be improved.

Marc how is John Di?  Haven't seen him for awhile.  He lives here in Oakville.

Al and Peggy, I have been using Firefox for everything except our MLS of late and love it.  I would stay away from Windows 7 for at least six months even though the reviews are pretty good on 7. It's always something, isn't it? :-)

Jenny - I didn't know he lived in Oakville.  John seems to be doing well.  His group is working on a lot of exciting things.

Does Oakville use TorontoMLS?  I thought I had read sometime ago that Oakville was no longer using something that TREB used? Or it might be that we no longer get your listings on our MLS.

Oh, Al and Peggy - I didn't thank you for the delicious refreshments I enjoyed this month courtesy of both of you while you enjoying yourselves down south.  Thank you.  :)  In case you are wondering, we didn't have lunch this time.  It seems that we always get to enjoy refreshments but only get lunch once in a while.  However, this time we had left before it was lunch.

Only two more weeks until more refreshments. :)

Hi Kids; Windows 7 is just another way to disguise the software as Vista 2, but as Vista had so many problems, Microsoft knew they had to change the name. Good luck with the upgrade.

We have an XP and a Vista computer here in our office. The Vista computer is far, far superior to the XP. We love Vista, but we've heard here on the West Coast that Windows 7 is even better, so while we won't be upgrading Vista to Windows 7, we just might be buying a new Windows 7 computer to take the place of XP since it's getting a little ragged in the tooth.
