ANSWER TO: Wordless Wednesday With A Little "Name That Photo" Added

We know this was a toughy, but if it is to easy and the first guy gets it... where's the fun.

We had some good guesses, even some pretty close ones.

So, this is what you were trying to figure out what exactly the picture was showing.

The wheels came to a grinding stop.

This is where the operator was stationed to operate the above picture.

The station operators old home.

Well here it is...

The old Atherley Narrow's Bridge.

This bridge was able to rotate in one direction to allow cars to cross and as it showsc in the picture to allow for boat traffic to pass by.  In the 1990's the bridge and the bridge operator were both retired to make way for a new modern overpass which allowed boat traffic to pass under.

The bridges both spanned over what is know as the Atherley Narrows which connects two bodies of water Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching.

Wow - I had no idea what that was for... I was thinking something to do with trains... Amazing!

Al and Peggy I had to come back to see what the answer was.  So those that said that it had something to do with trains were on the right TRACK :)

Looks like you took a little side trip?  Did you see lots of other great stuff?  OK. I'm going to go post one now.  I'm not sure if it will be easy or hard.  We will see.....

Al & Peggy,  That was a tough one.  I missed the original post -- but it wouldn't have mattered because I wouldn't have guessed correctly.

I was thinking a suspension bridge of some type... kind of close!

Al and Peggy,

I would not have guessed this one.   You are right when you say that if it's too easy and the first guy gets it what fun would that be.

Al and Peggy - That was certainly not an easy one. I would have guessed some machinery in a junk yard.

Hi Al and Peggy - I wouldn't have guessed that one either.

Al and Peggy, There is a ferry on the Ottawa River that goes to Quyon Que. that looks something like that bridge, but you got me on that!  Fun contest.

Guess my brother was closest guess with "draw bridge."

Well, I just may have been on the right track. It looked like the mechanism to a rotator because of the spur gear and the heavy duty bearings, and it had to be large because of the thickness and span of the cross ties. Interesting post, but I didn't let it interfere with my supper. :o))

Al & Peggy - I missed the post, but I would not have guessed that in a million years.
