Al and Peggy's Corner: Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow...

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow...

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow...

On Friday morning at 4:00 am we jumped into the car and programmed the GPS to Maderia Beach, Florida.  Snow, go ahead and snow, we will be on the beach.

Well just about half way light snow started to fall.  With just about less than 1/4  tank of gas it was time to pull over and fill up just in case things slowed down ahead.

We ended up in a little place called Bluefield, West Virgina.  It took us about an hour and a half to get to the gas station.  Problem now was that there were cars everywhere, only way out is via a hill and traction was not to be seen anywhere.  Getting around was almost impossible as the snow fell, and fell and fell.

Five hours later, after sitting parked most of the time we found a Quality Inn, $89 for the night. After passing car after car that were in the ditch, tractor trailers just stopped in the driving lanes not being able to get up even the smallest grades, we thanked our lucky blessings and would of paid $200 for the room. In the morning there was about a foot of snow on the ground and a good six inches on the car. Have a look. Cleared the car off but couldn't get a straight answer if I-77 was okay southbound. First we heard the road was closed, then open then closed again. So, here we sit, a thirteen hour drive ahead of us to the sunny beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Al and Peggy,

Have a good road trip and be careful with all the recent snow fall in the East coast!

Hi Al & Peggy, oh boy, you are here! Well, I am waiting for that very same storm to dump a whole bunch of snow on us. Maybe they will be wrong!

You stay warm and safe! Have a wonderful time. I should have known you crossed the border, it feels a bit warmer here, LOL.

Since you're from Ontario, I'm sure you weren't scared by a little white-stuff.  The biggest problem is avoiding all the drivers who are scared.  They can make a bad situation even worse.  Have a great, safe Christmas.

Jim, we hope you have a Merry Christmas and the snow lets up so you can move around.  We hear alot of people are stranded and not able to continue plans to visit family

Thanks John, Merry Christmas and we are hoping we make it to Florida, still holed up here in Virginia with the Governor saying Virginia is in a state of emergency!

Gerry at the moment no one is going anywhere, state troopers keeping everyone off the roads, so just in wait mode!

Andrea, they are not wrong except for one thing, the timing!  We thought we had a couple of more hours to get down south, but the storm hit early...DUCK YOUR HEAD ANDREA, there is lots coming!

Hey Tom, we don't even get this much white stuff!!! But we have teams of plows ready for it.  Not here! No worries, we'll play it safe and wait one more night! You have a great Christmas too!

Hi Al and Peggy - First saw this post yesterday afternoon but didn't comment on it since I had maxed out on points early in the day and needed to wait for the new day to start.  It's a lot harder to find posts on the weekend (and right before Christmas) to comment on since it is so quiet.  I need to see if you've posted anything today since your followup post yesterday talked about the great new life you were having in Bluefield.
