Al and Peggy's Corner: Birds of Prey... Not Into Sharing

Peregrine Falcons are amazing.  Love em.  Love the photo.  Love to see them live in the wild!

Great photo.  I don't blame you for keeping your distance.

Larry and Ron, we couldn't believe how close he let us get, but with eyes like that on us, we were not going to push our luck trying to get closer.  It was quite a big catch that he had and we noticed he wasn't planning on sharing with anyone.  See how he keeps his claw tightly on it?  Thanks for giving us this guys proper name Larry. 

Al and Peggy - the talons are great for catching and holding ... I would be more woried about that beak ... now that can cut you to ribbons

Al and Peggy.. Yes, those talons look deadly.  I would not get close to this bird either.. any idea what kind of bird this is?  Falcon, Hawk?  Not sure.

Actually you are probably right Kathy, they look pretty sharp! He was razor focused on us too!

Mary, we couldn't pass up the opportunity, it was actually luck that we spotted him!

Valerie Larry Betag seems to know its a Peregrine Falcon, but we had no clue, good looking bird though.  We were not getting any closer especially since he was enjoying his dinner and did not look like he was going to invite guests!  

Hi Kids those talons were out just in case someone tried to take that fish away. At least it was a fish and not something that would have left a trail of blood.

Ed, that fish did show off a mess, but that bird was not sharing! 

Al & Peggy, that was one very cool picture....but sorry Larry my Illinios friend, it's not a Peregrine Falcon, it is an Osprey.  I'm certainly not an expert, but I do like birds and know a little about them.  Ospreys do eat fish but Peregrines are actually bird eaters and sometimes small rodents/mammals.

Al & Peggy,  I really like that photo.  All the raptors are amazing birds.  I wondered whether it was a Peregrine Falcon or an Osprey, so I looked them up and it is amazing how much alike they look (at least to me).  After looking back and forth at the photos several times, I agree that it is an Osprey.

My marketing guru says it's best not to mess with our raptor friends. He also says that a good way to tell the difference between the Osprey and the Peregrine is to look at their feetsies (and he did say "feetsies"). The Peregrine has gold feet and the Osprey has white feet, as in your photo. Maybe I should just send him over her to comment on all your blog posts.

It is sounding like it is hands down that this starving guy is an Osprey!  Thanks for doing our homework Gary.

Hey Al and Peggy, great picture of the bird of prey.  You are lucky he didn't fly off. 

That one was just a lucky break Debra! and of course Mr. Bird was very co-operative. LOL

We were Liz, think he was more interested in his dinner than us. Well as long as we didn't come too close that is.
