We Are On The Countdown To Earth Hour, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada!
On March 14th we reminded you of Earth Hour 2010. Join the forces of more than 92 other countries, Saturday March 27th at 8:30 p.m. by turning off your lights and reducing the usage of any other power possible.

This was a single event held in Sydney Australia back in 2007 and is now observed by hundreds of millions of people across the world. The goal of Earth Hour is raise global awareness about the climate change. Last year in 2009, only about 52% of Canadians participated in Earth Hour. We are hoping to raise that number this year.
Please do your part. Not just on Saturday March 27, 2010 but each and every hour of every day.
Here are a few tips to help:
- Use less lights and consider replacing the light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs
- Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible
- Invest in power bars
- Use reusable bags at the stores
- Turn down the heat and turn up the air conditioner
- Let's get back to using outdoor clotheslines
Here we go! In less than 24 hours. Stand up and be counted by turning off your lights during Earth Hour Saturday March 27th from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and show the Earth and the generations to come that you care.

Great reminder - I would have forgotten! Thanks!
Thanks for the reminder, we do this every year, but I hadn't heard too much about it this year and would have forgotten, Have a great weekend.
Best Regards, Jay
Al & Peggy,
Thanks for the reminder. I had seen this earlier in the week, but would have forgotten. The other suggestions are good, too, as they give us long term ways to reduce energy use.
I'll participate! Great suggestions!
Thank you for the reminder, I will be turning on all the lights and tvs in my house as a form of peaceful protest. Heck I may even run my lawn mower.
Al & Peggy, I wasn't aware of this. OH MY.....where have I been? LOL But I will from now on.
Al and Peggy - In Ontario, they should have Earth Day during the weekday when prices are the highest in our "time-of-use" province, not when prices are cheapest on the weekend and to where they want us to shift our energy consumption.
Keep spreading the word =)
btw... what are you two going to be doing in the dark ;-)
Is that 8:30 PM PST, CST, EST, GMT? Without Coordinated Universal Time, the gesture really doesn't achieve what it wants. Whoever coordinates this thing should keep the time in mind...so to speak.
Hi Al & Peggy, thank you for the reminder! I will make a plan to hole up in my bedroom, unplug everything I can and climb under the covers, hows that?
Al & Peggy, I do all of the things you mentioned except hanging clothes outside, my HOA would never go for that, but I do it because I am cheap, I will never agree that there is any truth whatsoever to global warming or that if the globe is really warming there is anything man can do about it. We need to stop playing God.
This is silly to believe that this "Power Hour" will have any impact. Did the guy who thought it was a good idea for Jimmy Carter to tell people to "just put on a sweater" come up with this one also? Energy conservation is a daily thing for the people who are mindful of paying their own bills. I'll bet the Big Wigs who thought this up resemble Al Gore, and his arrogantly wasteful use of electricity in his mansion. Too funny (actually kind of sad) that people will probably drive their cars, burning up extra fuel, and creating even more CO2 so they can go celebrate this "event" with their friends - and probably burn candles, or lanterns which then creates even more CO2. BRILLIANT!
It is a good hour to remember if you can Dagny, it is done just to bring awareness to the waste that we all do.
Your welcome Jay! Every little bit we do is good for all!
It's the long term ones we like Mary. Actually some of them are convenient for ourselves. Like the reusable bags for instance.
Thanks Melanie for joining in!
Your welcome Michael! Hope your inspections are all finished by then!
Its only been in practice for 2 or 3 years Lisa but its catching on.
Agree Marc, but it is an event to get the word out and awareness.
LOL Chris! Its a worthy cause to talk about.
We understand your viewpoint Yolanda, but as long as everyone contributes for at least one hour it will all accumulate and then hopefully the awareness every day.
Love it Andrea, but only after a nice hot bubble bath LOL!
Well Hugh its conservation whether its for the planet or your wallet!
Ron, we don't believe it was just the big wigs who thought this up although we understand your points. It is all for our own health and welfare, to recycle and reuse.
I remember when I first became aware of Mother's Day....my comment to my father and sister was shouldn't EVERY DAY be Mother's Day so that we respect and help her....a few minutes allows the world to have a "feel good" moment ONLY * we should have PRUDENT, COMMON $ENSE solutions without government intervention or inteference - free enterprise is the key * not FAKE carbon credits and media hype and underserved prizes!!!
Hi Al and Peggy ~ I called my parents to remind them and they already had the candles ready. I really wish that *everybody* would do it and then we could see the stars in the city again.
Amazing the places that are participating - Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower, the Parthenon, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Empire State Building - and in my area the cities of Cambridge and Somerville.
Those are great tips. Around here clotheslines are coming back among eco-conscious young people.
Liz
I did my part and had a couple neighbors turn on all their stuff only because you deleted my comment so you are helping kill the planet with your rudeness Al. wtg
