Al and Peggy's Corner: The Results Are In and Have Been Reported

The Results Are In and Have Been Reported

The Results Are In and Have Been Reported

Earth Hour has come and gone for another year, but we hope the affects and awareness last all year

Earth Hour 2010 saw a reduction in power of 4%.
It doesn't sound like much, but in this report from MSN, they claim that was enough to power the City of Brampton.  The City of Brampton has a population of more than 450,000 residents and in excess of 266 square miles.  That is a lot of area to power up and people's needs to fulfill.

It proves that in reality that was indeed quite a saving of resources in only just one hour of one single day.

Can you imagine what we could actually save if we did this every day, for just one hour?
What can you do?

Al and Peggy, considering that not nearly everyone participated (...and I venture actually didn't even know about it), this is an impressive result.  Consumption is the greatest source of preservation.

Earth hour should become an earth day, trying to live a more simple life and get out to meet the neighbors. nice post.

That is a pretty impressive result. I personally was not aware of Earth Hour as I would guess most others were not either. Thanks for sharing.

WOW!  And people don't believe that ONE person can make a difference!

Al & Peggy, thanks for posting these results and reminding us of Earth Hour.  You are right about one hour every day...now that would make a difference.

Hi Silvia! You are right there is still not enough awareness about Earth Hour or Earth Day.  However every little bit helps. We read 120 countries participated and believe that is up from last year.

Thanks Bryan, there is an Earth Day sometime in April, Funny last year we ourselves were confused over Earth Hour and Earth Day but every day should be Earth Day and you are right get out and meet your neighbours.

Earth Hour is only a few years old, so ya, the awareness needs to get out there.

Ya, we know right Lisa? You think oh what difference can I make, but we all can!

Hey Nick, we can all try, can't we? We are all for going to bed one hour earlier! LOL!   Oops, did we use our outside voice?

Al and Peggy you are right 4% does not sound like much, but you put it in terms of lighting up a city of 450,000 residents, it is huge.

Al & Peggy, I don't know if you used your outside voices or not, but I heard you loud and clear...sounds like a great idea to me...may the sizzle never fizzle ;) ;) ;)

All total it was huge George, even because now a few more people are aware of Earth Hour! ;)

LOL! Nick, guess we did use our outside voice 0)

Well I would have been here sooner but I had no power.  I was at the show on Sat. during earth hour.  The lights were off though.

I too have never heard of Earth hour.  Whatever it is, it sounds like it had a good effect, and perhaps should be expanded to Earth Day.

Al & Peggy - This just goes to show that an hour can make a BIG difference and so can one person.

Imagine if I had done a full hour instead of just 58 minutes. I think I was finishing up an ActiveRain blog post or helping a friend. LOL

Sometimes friends need a little help!
