Al and Peggy's Corner: Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 2

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 2

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 2

The opening match between South Africa and Mexico resulted in a 1 - 1 tie and earned each team 1 point.  It was fitting that the host team South Africa scored the first goal.  The second game between Uruguay and France ended with no scoring and also earned each team 1 point each.

Saturday June 12, 2010 World Cup 2010 enters Day 2.

Game 3 will be between Argentina and Nigeria and played at Ellis Park (Johannesburg), with a capacity for the World Cup of 65,000.  Argentina is expected to come out the winner... we'll see soon.

Game 4 will be between South Korea and Greece at Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth), with a capacity for the World Cup of 48,459.  This one is a tough call, look out Las Vegas.

Game 5 will be between England and United States at Royal Bafokeng (Rustenburg), with a capacity for the World Cup of 42,000.  There will be millions watching this one.  England is the favourite.

World Cup 2010 is expected to be the largest sporting event of all time with over one billion spectators watching the games from all over the world.  See the video the South African fans created for their team Bafana Bafana.

How about a quick quiz, what flag belongs to what country... good luck.

The game was on, and my home was echoing this evening with the sound of the bullhorns. Sounded like a swarm of bees buzzing.

Al & Peggy - I can't wait to see these two teams battle it out and I get to do it with a ton of friends.  There's nothing like watching soccer and grilling out.

Al and Peggy I watched the first game today and South Africa should have won it at the end, the goalie would have never stopped the shot if it was on net.  I am looking forward to the US game tomorrow.

Al and Peggy,

With hockey officially over now, we can concentrate on the World Cup!  :)

I look forward to watching the games including the US vs. England on Saturday (I will be one of the millions watching).

One billion spectators ... I feel bad, I didn't see either game yesterday. I guess I should watch at least one game and raise the count to one billion and one spectators :0)  .... I wonder if there will be any famous head butts this time.

Hi Kids, USA vs England has gotten some additional flavor because of the politicos going at it. Our guy, (Obama) took some shots at the President of BP because of the little leak in the Gulf. Their PM took a shot back and told our guy to back off. So this morning the radio announcers are sending out the warnings, that we did it in 1776, and 1812 and we can certainly do it again. Look for that to be very physical with the yellows and reds coming out quick.

Exciting party times Ellen!

Sounds like fun Michelle, what time does the grilling start?

We were rooting for South Africa since they are the host team, Go Bafana, bring it home to Mama!

Ahhh, the US and England..................Gerry, what more needs to be said....

Sounds like there may be some today (Saturday) Laura, so today would be a good one to tune in to

Uh-oh, sorry it may turn nasty and to think it will be US and England, not to play politely in the sand box Ed.

I am sorry to say that is not my cup of tea.  I was working on my computer and doing paperwork while this was on.   :-(

Al and Peppy US 1 and England 1.  It was a lucky goal for the US, but we will take it :)

George a goal is a goal, and a win is a win, although we wouldn't have wanted to be that English goalie walking back into the dressing room. Poor guy. Congratulation on the US win!
