Al and Peggy's Corner: Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 6

Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 6

Day 5 of World Cup 2010 brought the much anticipated Brazil team to the field.  It was expected that they would run away with the game, yet were lucky to win.

New Zealand and Slovakia played to a 1 - 1 tie, Ivory Coast and Portugal tied, but didn't make the score board 0 - 0, Brazil squeaked a 2 - 1 win over North Korea.

Wednesday June 16, 2010 World Cup 2010 enters Day 6.

Maybe today with the final four teams hitting the fields we will see a team that really wants to win the Cup.  So far they have all just been putting in time.  It's time to start playing like you want to win.  It's not the new Niki ball or shoes that will win or lose the game.  It will be the team that plays to win that will come out on top.

Game 15 will be between Honduras and Chile and played at Mbombela  (Nelspruit), with a capacity for the World Cup of 43,500.

Game 16 will be between Spain and Switzerland at Moses Mabhida Stadium (Durban), with a capacity for the World Cup of 70,000.

At this point all teams have now played their first game.  Now, let's get on with the games and find the best team.

Game 17 will be between South Africa and Uruguay at Loftus Versfeld Stadium (Pretoria), with a capacity for the World Cup of 49,365.

How about a quick quiz, what flag belongs to what country... good luck.

I'm loving your World Cup reports Al & Peggy. It's like having a reporter right there at the games for us!

I am following the World Cup.  I hope the USA will do well, but I have the feeling that South Africa being on their home turf might have the advantage and go all the way.  Let's see how they do today.

Hey kids, so far the theme of the games is try not to lose. Games ending in 0-0 ties are hardly what anybody could consider good soccer. Yesterday, one of the teams actually passed the ball back and forth at midfield for almost 3 minutes without advancing at all. That can hardly be considered a high caliber of play.

Al and Peggy,

Other than Germany who scored 4 goals in their first game, no team has really shown they want to win the World Cup.  I would have expected teams like Italy, France and Brazil to have had more offense and goals in their first games.  I am hoping that today's final four teams will provide more goals and a desire to win.

Thanks Craig, but hasn't been anything too exciting to report to you!

It should be an interesting game Michael, Bafana, bafana!

And these are the stars Ed! Maybe they are still woring the butterflies out.

We were shocked at Brazil yesterday, you are right no one is showing they want to win....yet

Al and Peggy,

Now Switzerland beating Spain (the European champions and one of the favorites to win this year's World Cup) is the biggest shock so far in these games!

I am looking forward to the start of the second games for all the participating countries and to your future commentaries and updates.  :)

Al and Peggy, the game between Spain and Switzerland was a big surprise.  This is what happens when you don't come to play, and the other team does.
