Al and Peggy's Corner: It Was A Meet And Greet Night Of One Of Our Favourite Authors

It Was A Meet And Greet Night Of One Of Our Favourite Authors

This was a first for us, never before have we been to an 'author's reading'.
It was very interesting to sit and listen to an author read a chapter from one of their own books, seeing their expressions & hearing their thoughts behind the story line.

The author we were excited to meet was Linwood Barclay.
Be warned; pick up his book 'Bad Move', by this Canadian author, and you will be addicted.  The story surrounds a man named Zack Walker.  If you knew this man, he would be a great friend, there sure would never be a dull moment, that is a given. But then again, maybe you wouldn't want old Zack as a close friend.

cover of the book Bad MoveThis book is so well put together. It is a crime type story all wrapped up with suspense and humour.  You will be quickly turning the pages because you can not get enough of Zack Walker.

What a great introduction 'Bad Move' is to Linwood Barclay's writings,
a former Toronto Star newspaper columnist. Not in the Zack Walker series, but another unbelievably exciting book is 'No Time For Goodbye'.  This is a more serious crime book with an very catchy story line.

Check these out, we know you will be hooked!

Hi Al & Peggy, now that sounds like a great evening! And I love crime stories of all kinds, especially series books. I will try to remember to pick that one up!

Thanks for reminding us that there are books out there that don't deal with production, lead generation or conversion!  Sound like a grat time ... do they have authors in California?

Hi Al and Peggy - I read Linwood's column for a number of years in the Star.  Where did you see him and did you get an autographed copy of his book?

Andrea it's a really great series, though we found out last night the for now Linwood Barclay has retired the Zack series and moved on to 'darker' crime.  His No Time For Goobye is amazing.

Oh yes Jack a great many books other than lead conversaion LOL! There were no California authors at this event though.

Oh my gosh Marc, Linwood is so funny and he was telling everyone about his experiences as a journalist. He was at the Stephen Leacock Museum in Orillia off Brewery Bay. What an awesome piece of property. Yes we did get a signed copy of Never Look Away. It was the book he read from

Oh you must Michael, but be warned you will be addicted.

Hi Al and Peggy. I read a great deal and am very fond of books. Every year (usually November) at Harbourfront they have a festival of authors, and you can stroll around and talk to some authors. The festival ends on Sunday evening when the five Giller prize nominees from that year give a 10 minute reading from their nominated novel. At the end, you can purchase their books and get them signed in person. Ticket are only $25.00 (well they were last year), so it's a fabulous value for an evening's worth of great entertainment.

I hope you'll do this same kind of blog for me when I finally finish my first novel. I support other readers, cause I hope they will enjoy and support me too.

Hi Al & Peggy,

Thanks for the heads up. Right now I'm reading Stephen King's "It". I have to read horror when I'm writing horror - keeps me on track.

But when I'm done with my novel (on the last edit), I'll be looking for a genre change and this series just might be the ticket!
