Al and Peggy's Corner: The Convenience Of On The Go Technology!

The Convenience Of On The Go Technology!

The Convenience Of On The Go Technology!

Okay maybe we are just behind the times a little or maybe we just wait to let them get the kinks out,
but right now this blog is coming to you 'live' as we drive along the 400 highway in Ontario, Canada.  Hey, don't be alarmed here, there is a designated driver.

It's all courtesy of this little stick hanging out the side of computer
, which is allowing us to connect to the internet from just about anywhere at anytime! How cool is that?

Rogers Rocket Pocket Internet Broadband Stick

Ours is from the Rogers network and we know Bell Canada also has one
.  Check with whoever your carrier is and be 'live' wherever you are!  Reporting to you 'live' from the 400 highway, just outside Barrie, Ontario, Canada!

Hi Peggy - How slow is Al driving on the 400 up in Barrie?  Say "hi" to him but tell him not to look at the screen, eh? ;)

I see that Al has left a paper publication with the word "fun" on your side of the car floor, that you enjoy bottled water in the car and that you are using a full-sized laptop on your drive.

I think I've been told several times that Bell and Rogers share the same network for the internet sticks across Canada.  I'm not sure if it is true for all of the technologies.

I might have the ownership of the paper publication wrong.  Was he the one who likes to read paper books or is it you Peggy?

Hey kids, isn't technology great, when we don't have the stick or don't want to use it, there's always free wi-fi at hotels, especially Holiday Inns

Technology has certainly come quite far in the last decade, and will continue to surprise us!

Good Morning Marc or should we say Detective Marc.  The driver is not peeking at the computer screen, is keeping eyes on the road and is wearing a seat belt.  As for fun... we will let you guess on that one.

Hey Ed, this is the first time we used a stick, it's our daughters, but maybe not for long.  Funny thing when you mentioned Holiday Inns, we have to meet some people for lunch at a Holiday Inn today.  Just have to get off this computer and get going.  Maybe we will take the stick with us.

This reminds me of a situation I once had! I was on my way to a meeting and I got stuck in some heavy traffic de to an accident. No way would I be on time, so I wanted to cal and tell them. I didn't have the number with me, or at first I thought not, but then remembered it was in my e-mail. So in dead traffic, I started up my computer got the number and called them.

So often I'd like my computer on the road, I'mm a nervous passenger, especially with my daughter a new driver, I could distract myself if I was on the computer.

Al & Peggy,

Niiiice, I'm still trying to disconnect while on the road. You have the advantage of the Brampton power team to share the on-the-road duties.

All The Best,

Steve

Al and Peggy my company just got an air card for my computer, but before that I was using my "Smart Phone" to get on the Internet from anywhere that I had phone coverage.  I was doing it through a free App called PDA.net.  You connect the phone to the laptop with a USB cord, and it was fasssssssssst and best of all FREE.

Al & Peggy - I've considered getting one of these, but having internet access on my phone I'm not sure I would use it that often.

One problem.  I would be car sick.  I can wait until I get to a wifi spot.

Hi Al and Peggy. I'm considering gettingone but I will need to be careful about how I use it. The bandwidth charges are pretty steep on some of those accounts and I run though a lot of bandwidth. I remember looking at one ad when they first came out and finding that 30 GB per month would cost me about $700. Hopefully things have improved since then.

In the meantime I'm stuck with a country wireless connection trying to feed video up to the websites I develop for each listing, YouTube etc. Even that runs $80+for a speed that tops out at 400 Mbps, so there is a huge difference compared to the rates for those who live in the city.

Al & Peggy, now how cool is that...I've considered an air card, but I want to try out tethering my phone to the computer first as George stated...

Very cool Al and Peggy. I tether my Blackberry Bold and connect that way if there's no WiFi in the area. You download an app for 50 bucks and you're good to go on AT&T. Just don't roam out of country or they gouge you.

I would have had one already too except for the cost.  It is an extra charge that I really don't need right now since I do have access through my phone if I really need it.
