Al and Peggy's Corner: We Were Invaded Last Night, Warning You Could Be Next!

We Were Invaded Last Night, Warning You Could Be Next!

We Were Invaded Last Night, Warning You Could Be Next!

Seriously we were invaded last night.
Not by aliens, no nothing that would be so much fun. We were invaded by another computer virus!

Virus warning sign Virsu detected sign

No we didn't log onto any suspicious looking sites or open one of those weird e-mails or pictures saying we were tagged in a photo. We were simply trying to spice up a blog!

The writing part was all finished and the highlighting done and we thought 'let's add a picture', but we didn't have an appropriate one.
So we searched Google for free pictures. Yep, that's when it happened. We found what we thought was the perfect photo to add, clicked on it and zap, it nailed us. Just like that, no fuss, no muss.

We now every few seconds we get this flash on the screen that says we may have a virus and need to download protection.
The flash notice is accompanied by a squawking pig sound.  We think this is the viruses way of trying to get us to buy their protection program but no thank you. We will dash over to the store and buy another program to remove theirs.

Yes I have gotten that virus to. Spy hunter removes it . Or you could find the infected file. Then shut down your PC. Come up in safe mode. Find the infected file. Rename it and then delete it. That works too depending on which on of these things you got

Hi Al & Peggy, I hate those things. I subscribe to iClipart for those times my own photos just won't do. Saves a whole bunch of aggravation I have to tell you.

I hope that little bugger is gone and dead by the time you read this comment.

Now get over to iClipart and sign up....

Al and Peggy,

I wish some people had better things to do with their lives than try to come up with a virus to destroy and harn innocent people's computers.   I am glad you avoided this one and thanks for the warning to be careful.

Thanks Charlie for the advice, we are worried for us to do it, that would be skating on thin ice. But they are good options.

Thanks Andrea and will head over there ASAP!

Your welcome Allen and yes Charlie gave good advice, we need to learn more about this stuff!

We still can't figure out what kicks they get Gerry, After all they don't see how frustrated we get!!

Thanks BLiz! We are calling in the Ghostbusters!

OUCH! Since we rely on our computers so much these days, it's especially frustrating when one of these buggers invades our world. I hope you're able to get rid of it without too much frustration or time lost.

Al... what type of "pictures" were you looking at ;-)

... jk, I too, have a internet security program that scans both websites and downloads before allowing me to proceed.

Al & Peggy, I have come across something similar but it looked like my computer was being invaded by a hundred viruses (it freaked me out!) and then it stated how to rid them with their product. I hit escape and did a full system scan and Noton took care of it...I haven't looked at the free stuff ever since! The best to you in getting that resolved!

Al & Peggy - That's happened to me before as well and I absolutely hate it when it happens.

Thanks for the warning Al/Peggy.  It's scary how easily/quickly your PC can be infected.

I recently had the same virus.  I have good up to date virus protection but it got past it.

Al & Peggy, I haven't picked up on of those, but I have others...nothing too serious yet.  That's really kind of scary...I guess developing your own photo library is the way to go...if at all possible.

Hi Al and Peggy - It is very important to know the message style and dialog box displays used by your own virus protection program to help protect your computer from viruses.

I too use Iclipart all the time but had started hunting around recently for freebies.  Thanks to your warning I wont anymore!!  Iclipart is very reasonable and I have been using them for a couple of years now.
