Back in the '60's the government came up with a plan to help people with home ownership. They assisted, by offering a plan called H.O.M.E. which stood for home ownership made easy.

did not have to pay the land transfer tax normally applicable when buying a property.

It has been said that the plan was so popular in the City of Brampton, when first announced that the list of people wanting to buy into the program exceeded the number of homes being built and so a draw was conducted to choose the buyers.

To accommodate as many houses as possible in the area provided, the homes were staggered on the lot lines, hence the name Zero Lots.  With the homes staggered on the lot lines instead of in the
middle of a lot, it meant some homes had front yards or side yards instead of back yards. It was a well accepted idea that helped families have their own home and their own yard.

Today, the land leases have been paid off but the homes are still very affordable and conveniently located. The 'H' section is bordered by Dixie Road, Queen St. E., Central Park Drive and Howden Blvd.

You may be wondering what is the 'H' Section. When the Bramalea area of the City of Brampton was being devolped, the planners came up with the idea of naming the neighbourhoods by following the alphabet.  Such as Hector
Court is located in the 'H' Section. In reality it was a great idea, the locals know if you are in the A, B, C, D, E or F sections you are south of Queen St. If you are in the G, H,  J, L, M, N or P sections you are
north of Queen St. For some reason the idea was abolished after the 'P' section was built.

If your thinking of buying or selling in the 'H' section, call us 905-450-5500 or email us at, we have been selling properties there for years and know it well.

Great local information, Al and Peggy.  Any old time Bramalea resident immediately knows the specific areas of the "A" Section all the way up to the "J" section.  I spent many an afternoon playing squash at Howden Recreation Centre.

Al and Peggy that is a concept that I had not heard of before, but one that should be explored by other cities and towns.
