Al and Peggy's Corner: Start A New, New Year's Eve Tradition This Year

Start A New, New Year's Eve Tradition This Year

Yesterday Kathy Streib asked us all in her blog what New Year's traditions we have.

blowing up a pink balloonLast year we started a new New Year's Eve tradition you may want to try.
We got a balloon and with each breath we blew into the balloon we also blew in our worries, our problems and that nagging memory that wouldn't go away. Once the balloon was filled, we tied it up and let it and all our issues go. The higher in the sky the balloon went and the farther it went from us, the lighter our shoulders felt. Yes, we made that balloon pretty big and who says you can't blow up two balloons.

Come on, confess, we all have them.
You know the monkey on your back you always carry around, that issue that re-plays over and over in your mind and brings you down when you least expect it.

Try this simple act, it worked for us. We're not saying we never ever thought about our issues or problems again, but when they cropped back up in our minds, we just pictured that balloon filled with doubts and worries high in the sky blowing away from us and that brought back a sense of relief and peace.

This year we're going to start another tradition found on Pinterest. We got a jar and when something exciting, funny or good happens during the year we are going to write it down and put it in the jar. Next year on New Year's eve after the balloon has been set in flight, we'll sit down and review our year remembering all the wonderful, happy and good things that happened. What better way to ring in a New Year than on a positive note focusing on all the good stuff?

Good morning Al and Peggy -

I like your New Year ideas.  Our Church small group is going to use index cards to document our worries, problems or goals then put them away until next year then look back and see how God has handled our situations.  Happy New Year!

Good Morning Al and Peggy, that's a good tradition to start. We've been doing something similar for years, I call it the "blessing box" I write down a blessing each day and put it in the box and read them morning after Thanksgiving. Have a great New Year!

One of the best idea I've heard in a long time, I love it Al and Peggy.  I think I might just have to give it a try.

That sounds like a great idea too John. The more ideas the better!

I like that Beth, the blessing box. Yes, we'll call our jar the blessing jar!

Give it a shot Roger. It was great to watch that old balloon blow away with 'the bugs' in it!

I like both these ideas Al/Peggy.  Having and keeping a positive attitude is so important.

Good Sunday Morning Al and Peggy.  Terrific idea.  I don't see how to get it up in the air without the use of helium but I'll give it a try,  what the heck, anything to get rid of 2012.

Al & Peggy, I'm not sure there are enough balloons in the lower 48 for me to be successful at this, but it's a great idea...kind of reminds me of Zen breathing...breathing in clean white air and exhaling all the dirty stuff inside.
