Al and Peggy's Corner: Joining The World Of Juicing And Smoothies

Joining The World Of Juicing And Smoothies

Joining The World Of Juicing And Smoothies

Well, after much deliberation, (it couldn't have been procrastination right!)
we have bitten the bullet and decided we would see what all this hoopla about smoothies and juicing is.

Out to the store we went, or should we say stor-es and came home with our arms full of bags and boxes.
We had stuff in those bags we have never even heard of or at least tasted, we have kale, coconut water, bok choy, and some really weird looking greens.

A Vita Mix blender and sample fruits and vegtables.

Into the old blender they went and swished around.
Boy it all came out looking strange and they want us to drink that? Okay; very gingerly we lifted the glass looking at each other cautiously as we took tiny sips and rolled it around in our mouths.

Hmm, not bad! Another taste. Ya, not bad at all, in fact it's quite tasty. We think we're going to like this stuff and to think it's good for us!

Have any good recipes, ones to help lose weight would be great.

Hello Al and Peggy,

I have been on and off the juicing bandwagon for a while, not to lose weight, but to try to restore energy. Even though I do feel appreciably better when I'm doing it, I still slip when I'm feeling lazy, and the laziness spirals into weeks of not doing it. Your post will inspire me to get back on the wagon, I really do notice a difference in my energy levels.

We had a little bowl of oatmeal and added this little concoction, try it.

We found that it tastes pretty good, now if it does work and helps lose weight all the better.

2 - handfulls of spinach (we use the baby stuff)
1 - apple (we used the Granny Smith)
1 - cup of yogurt (we used vanilla)
5 - strawberries (we used frozen)
1/2 - orange
1 - banana

This morning we also added to leafs of kale without the stock, and a few pieces of parsley.

Al and Peggy - We find that there is a blend between fruit and veggies that is important. A glass of natural fruit juice may be tasty, but it is still a lot of sugar! Sometimes its best to drink with your eyes closed, its not always pretty.  :)

Good morning you two-I drink a smoothie every morning-juicing is less effective and less filling because it takes the fiber out of the ingredients! I use kale,  spinach or arugula, a banana, grapes for sweetness, plain yogurt and some flax seed and I have to tell you , I never get tired of them and they fill me up!

Al and Peggy,

We also are smoothie drinkers in the morning.  We add  a vegan protein powder (no sugar, or gluten and we are not vegan eaters), and It gives us great energy... Have a great day, A

Al/Peggy: it has been a few months since I last used my juicer (laziness more than anything else).  I need to get back into the routine.

Al & Peggy, Good luck to you in your 'juicing' efforts. They are supposed to be healthy! Hey! Is that a fondue pot I see in the background? Now THAT is my kind of combining yummy ingredients!

I do my own kind of juicing. Tonight I juiced 3 oranges, 1 tangerine and 1 grapefruit andit was absolutely wonderful. I love doing my own you all must enjoy also.

Hi Guys, sometimes it needs a little help so depending on time of day, either a touch (3 fingers of vodka) of a couple of scoops of ice cream du jour

Well we are in to a couple of days on this juicing and doing just fine. We have to admit, its a bit shocking. We also admit we like some of your suggestions for ingredients!.......

It would taste better if you put a little vodka in it.  After all if it's Chopin, it's made from potatoes, a vegetable.

Al & Peggy, well I thought I was going to be the first to make this comment, but Chris & Dick beat me to it!  Everything goes better with Vodka, Gin or maybe a little Brandy!

I love smoothies in the summer, but usually fruit and yogurt.  Have never combined vegies and fruit. Well, maybe an apple. But am willing to try it.
